Johnson sets out to avenge his brother’s death after years in prison. That’s about it, plot wise. There are people to be killed, and killed they shall be.
Complicating the Driver’s mission, there is a Cop (Thornton) with a drug problem and a Killer (Jackson-Cohen) in hot pursuit. Those words are capitalized because that’s what the movie calls them. There is no question that everyone involved knew exactly what movie they are making and there is a great primal joy in watching revenge get served.
And yet, there is handsomeness to the production and a gravitas among the performers that elevates this above your typical exploitation flick, but only slightly. Johnson is such a force of determination; he might as well be playing the Terminator. (CBS Films)
