This entire trailer presentation should end as I write: “Kevin Spacey is Nixon, Michael Shannon is Elvis” but alas, I’m still too stunned that this is real to let it go at that. Up top there is the trailer for Amazon Studios spring release Elvis & Nixon and it looks batshit crazy. Not just because of the aforementioned actors who are starring in the title roles but because…well, did you watch that trailer!?!?
I actually LOL’ed 3-4 times (“laughed out loud” for you n00bs) which is tough to get me to do before my second cup of coffee but I did. Plus, if I was put on the spot, Michael Shannon would probably be my number one favorite actor right now. But even I get a little tired of his various degrees of psycho. But a semi-bloated, gun toting, karate machine Elvis as played by Shannon? That’s a psycho role I can get behind! I’m also unfamiliar with the films director Liza Johnson but my keen journalists eyes spotted one Cary Elwes as a writer on this. Say what!?! My only qualm right now is that the film drags a one-note joke out to feature length but we shall see this April!
On a December morning in 1970, the King of Rock ’n Roll showed up on the lawn of the White House to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Nixon. Starring Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley and two-time Academy Award® winner Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon, comes the untold true story behind this revealing, yet humorous moment in the Oval Office forever immortalized in the most requested photograph in the National Archives.
