Back in 2013 a movie called Blue Ruin rocked the cinematic world with its slow burn revenge thriller stylings. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the film, seek it out. It’s on Netflix Instant right now and is well worth watching. At that time the films writer/director Jeremy Saulnier was a relative unknown having only written and directed 2003’s Murder Party which was pretty good but a bit uneven. Blue Ruin is damned near a masterpiece.
As a person who follows the independent and film festival world pretty closely, I was thrilled to see Saulnier had a new film coming out titled Green Room and when I heard about it, I immediately jumped on the ‘net to find out more. I was very intrigued by the plot in which a punk rock band gets trapped backstage at a concert (in the “green room”) by a group of violent neo-Nazi’s but what really piqued my interest was seeing Saulnier had scored Sir Patrick Stewart as a lead. Furthermore, he’s playing the head of the neo-Nazi’s. Yes, Sir Partick Stewart has broken bad for this role and judging by the buzz surrounding the film as well as that trailer above, I think we may never think of Stewart as the caring Professor X or Captain Jean-Luc Picard again.
The film looks great and co-stars Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots (who’s name is just really fun to write and say) as well as Macon Blair who starred in the aforementioned Blue Ruin which you need to watch as soon as you can. Green Room hits theaters April 15.
