Back in February, Dennis brought you his thoughts on the new X-Men: Apocalypse and, let’s just say he was a bit, umm…non-plussed. And I agree! Not only is the whole idea that FOX is making the first X-Men movies null and void pretty weird, irritating and annoying, it remains unclear as to why they are doing this. Is it in service of ingénue Jennifer Lawrence and her Raven/Mystique character? I hope not as that’s never been all that popular of a character and honestly, Rebecca Romijn was way better. Anyway…
I also didn’t like that first trailer because it honestly looks like a video game. Particularly the shots of the various X-Men showing off their powers with really, really bad CGI backgrounds. However, this new trailer adds a bit more backstory and some depth and that cuts down the offensiveness of the aforementioned CGI. We also get a lot more Oscar Isaac as the titular Apocalypse. Still, I dunno,. Looks pretty shabby. I guess we won’t have to wait long to find out as the film drops on May 27.
