West of Her (Review)
West of Her unfolds like a dream. Writer-director Ethan Warren’s graceful two-hander pairs a nervous loner with no human footprint with a mysterious woman on a unique journey. They both “work” for someone or something distributing intricate tiles with inspirational quotes. The tiles are small enough to carry and assemble, but large enough to be noticed once permanently adhered to a sidewalk, street or parking lot. What it all means is...
Beacon Point (Review)
Beacon Point is a surprising indie horror gem about a hike in the woods that goes bad. There are hidden revelations, an evil entity, gory murders and a fetching heroine. We’ve seen it all before, which is why Eric Blue’s film is refreshing in its ability to engage early and sidestep the obvious beats. A group of randomly-assembled hikers on the Appalachian Trail become lost. Zoe (Rae Olivier) has a very personal reason for the trip....
The Bandit (Review)
Jesse Moss’ feature documentary The Bandit tells a number of stories, the most obvious being the story of how a stuntman persuaded execs at Universal Studios to give him $5 million to make a trucker comedy when he’d never written or directed before. But it’s also the story of wild ambition, unchecked ego and the eternal friendship between two men so similar, they became lifelong mates. This is the story of Hal Needham and mega-star...

Rogue One (Teaser Trailer)
Aw, yeah! Behold the first teaser for the next Star Wars movie – and the first “anthology” chapter to not have an episode number. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place in roughly the same era as Star Wars Rebels, but closer to Episode IV: A New Hope. Remember when Darth Vader referred to the stolen Death Star plans and casually said, “There will be no one to stop us this time.” He was probably...
