Entertainment- Trailer, Poster and an Impending Darkness
One of the best films I saw at this years Oak Cliff Film Festival was Rick Alverson’s black comedy Entertainment. If you’ve heard that name before it’s because Alverson made another pitch black film called The Comedy that starred Tim Heidecker back in 2012 and it’s on Netflix. It’s also probably scarred many, many people as it’s one messed up movie that uses the title The Comedy in the best, most ironic way. I’d bet dollars to...
Black Mass- Trailer
Today a trailer for Black Mass dropped and it looks gritty. The film stars a whole slew of dudes like Benedict Cumberbatch, Corey Stoll, Joel Egerton, Kevin Bacon and Adam Scott but mainly it stars Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger, a famed gangster who’s recently been getting a lot of attention. Another big selling point aside from that cast is Depp’s receding hairline which, between you and me, he’s probably had in real life for the past...
Get a “Room”- Trailer
I’m of the mindset that A24 doesn’t put out bad movies. At least so far. With films like Ex Machina, While We’re Young, The End of the Tour and Slow West out this year alone, I have genuine faith in whatever they put out, for now anyway. It reminds me of the old Miramax days or early Blumhouse where skirting quality for cash wasn’t on the table. Today the fine folks at A24 dropped the trailer for Room and once again it appears they’re...
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi – Red Band Trailer
When there’s a difficult military story that’s been twisted and bent into what might seem like a mystery, what film maker do you want telling you the story? Kathryn Bigelow? Michael Mann? Michael Moore? Ridley Scott? Hell no! You want Michael Bay to do it! And that’s just the guy we’re going to get on January 15 when his latest film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi hits theaters. But before the New Year gets here, we’ve all...
The Night Before – Red-Band Trailer
Last Christmas, Sony’s release of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s raunchy comedy The Interview didn’t quite work out, so the boys are back at it. Hopefully this time, there won’t be an international incident forcing the movie into hiding. Also hopefully, it will be funny. Be warned, the bro-tastic trailer has a few good NSFW laughs in it, but it also features drug use, profanity and gratuitous Miley Cyrus. From...
Josh Lucas in “The Mend”
I like Josh Lucas. You (probably) like Josh Lucas too but maybe lost track of him after the studio system lamely tried to make him into a sex symbol back at the beginning of the 2000’s. I mean, the guy’s good looking but he’s also a very, very good actor which is clear from his CV. What I’m saying is, he’s more than just a pretty face. I’m also glad he seems to have stuck within the mind of David...
Alex Gibney’s Doc on Steve Jobs Gets Media
The documentary factory that is Alex Gibney keeps on a-churnin’ as his latest, Steve Jobs: The Man and the Machine is ready to hit screens big and small on September 4, 2015. The fine folks at Magnolia Pictures were even nice enough to give Mashable an exclusive peek at the poster as well as the trailer and now, we’re going to share it with you. I generally dig Gibney’s work but he’s so active, it’s starting to feel all kind of the...
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials – Trailer
It’s always risky when a studio not only commits to a YA series, but goes into production on multiple films. Who knows if anyone’s going to show up? If recent history has shown us anything, it’s that for every Hunger Games, there is a The Host, Beautiful Creatures, Mortal Instruments, or Ender’s Game that fails to connect and never makes it to the sequel. In the middle somewhere you have the Divergent series,...
Mock! Yeah! Ing! Yeah! Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2 Trailer! Yeah!
A little while back we showed you faithful readers the teaser trailer for Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. It was weird. It was rhythmic. It looked like the video for Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation. But today, we get the real deal, the official trailer for HGMJP2 (*Note: Not a real acronym, I just made that up because I’m too lazy to write Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2) I feel like this is a solid franchise and I’ve enjoyed it so...
SPECTRE – Trailer
Watch the new trailer for SPECTRE. A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for...
Awesome Movie “One & Two” Gets Trailered
Back in March, Andrew Droz Palermo’s outstanding film One & Two kind of slipped past most people’s radar. That’s a real shame because between this film and his truly fantastic documentary Rich Hill (which is streaming on Netflix now so, get to it!) this guy is someone to watch. Well, thankfully One & Two didn’t slip by the people over at IFC Midnight who snapped up this super cool sci-fi/drama and are releasing it August 14....
The Good Dinosaur – Official US Trailer
After sitting out 2014, Disney-Pixar will release two non-sequel films this year. The first, Inside Out, has garnered some incredible reviews and will soon become Pixar’s second-biggest release ever. And now, we have our first good luck at The Good Dinosaur. Mired in creative struggles, the cute prehistoric tale is finally emerging from the shadows. “The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that...
Whoa dude! It’s the “American Ultra” trailer
For those who follow writer/director and spawn of John Landis, Max Landis on the olde Twitter machine, they know he can be a bag of hot air a lot of the time. OK, most of the time. I mean, the dude only has one writing credit that’s been made with 2012’s Chronicle. Yet, as longtime followers also know, that’s his point. He goes to extreme (frequently annoying) lengths to get his name out there because let’s face it,...
We’ve Never Seen So Many Stars “Digging for Fire”
Back when the Internet was just getting started and people were still relatively nice to one another in cinematic circles, I became friends online with a young, aspiring filmmaker named Joe Swanberg. Cut to 2015 and I’m still friends with him and still involved in film website type activities but my pal Joe is about to blow up, at least in cinematic terms. With 27 (!) directing credits to his name is just over a decade, Swanberg...
The Revenent – First Look
Alejandro G. Iñárritu will follow up his triumphant Birdman Oscar sweep with a movie that looks to be equally stunning, and now we have our first look. And don’t get us started on DiCaprio. If he doesn’t win for this, the Facebook memes and comparisons to Susan Lucci’s legendary losing streak are going to be deafening! THE REVENANT Action-Adventure Release: December 25, 2015 (limited); January 8, 2016 (wide)...
Peter Pan Prequel “Pan” Gets a New Trailer
It looks like the live-action-version-of-a-popular-cartoon train isn’t stopping anytime soon as Warner Brothers has kicked down with another trailer for their live action Peter Pan origin story (directed by Joe Wright), simply titled Pan. I have no problem with these live action films, but find it curious there’s so many given that none have really reached huge success. Granted, the sample size is small with Cinderella, Maleficent and...
Joy – Teaser Trailer
The team from Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle are together again! JOY is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a...
Gyllenhaal Says Knock You Out!
After getting summarily hosed with no “Best Actor” Oscar nom after his incredible performance in Nightcrawler at last years Academy Awards, Jake Gyllenhaal got angry. He took that anger to the gym. He bulked up. He ate right with lots of kale and raw hamburger. He probably did crossfit. O.K., all the stuff after him getting snubbed at the Oscars, I made up. BUT, he definitely isn’t pulling any punches in this clip (exclusively...
Sisters – Official Trailer
Tina Fey has struggled on the big screen in films she did not write. Sisters looks to change all that. It’s AbFab meets SNL with a dose of Animal House – and it’s R-rated! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture...
